3.17.24 Meeting Notes

Our first-ever Zoom meeting went very well, and we were so excited to welcome 30 of you to the first initial call.

We began the meeting by giving some general announcements about who made up the “founding board”: Robin Verson, Hannah Howard, and Debbie Brann. After this, sitting President Hannah Howard discussed some of the broad goals and outlines for our Fibershed affiliate and opened the floor to introductions from our attendees so we could get to know the network.

After these introductions, we discussed the first item on our agenda as an organization: creating a Fiber Directory that reflects the supply chains within both Kentucky and Tennessee. We’re on this project and you should see an email this week in your inbox about it!

We also elected our first board of 5. This board will serve until we have our chapter charter and electoral system laid out (sometime next year). In addition to Hannah, Debbie and Robin continuing their work, the following members have been nominated, creating our first standing board.

Hannah Howard, President - (TN) Fiber Industry Professional, Author

Robin Verson - (KY) Fiber Farmer, Natural Dyer

Debbie Brann - (KY) Fiber Farmer

Patrick Angel - (KY) President, Southeastern KY Sheep Producers Assoc.

Jennifer Folsom - (TN) Fiber Farmer, Independent Textile Designer / Artist

Jenn Lampen - (KY) Independent Knitting Designer

Cynthia Rice - (TN) Yarn Shop Owner (pending acceptance of nomination)

We hope to introduce you more in-depth to each of these members in the near future via our newsletter and blog posts here.

After this meeting, we’ve confirmed that there is a widely-cast, eager group of fiber enthusiasts ready to step into an active and exciting network. Our first stage for this network will be getting the directory up and increasing awareness about the organization by attending events and handing out documentation.

If you would like to volunteer on a committee or for a particular project, we’d love your help! Please email us at info@gcfibershed.org.
